David Johnson

David Johnson, General Secretary of Sellers International is a retired Baritone player. Born in North Lincolnshire he started learning brass at the age of 7. playing in his early years at Barton Town & Brigg Town Bands. In 1971 he was appointed 1st Baritone at William Davis Construction Group in Loughborough where he stayed until becoming a founder member of Sellers International in 1986 where as well as playing Baritone he was also band Treasurer and Contest Secretary. From 1976 until 1993 he was General Secretary of The British Federation of Brass Bands.

In 1991 he retired from playing and took over the administration at Sellers adding General Secretary duties whilst continuing to look after contest admin, the money and even drive the kit van and sell CD's at concerts

David is a loyal member of the organisation being the only constant member since the first rehearsal in 1986 to the present and only having been registered with 2 bands in the last 31 years.

In March 2004 David was awarded the “Diploma of Honour” by the Worshipful Company of Musicians of the City of London for his services to the Brass Band Movement. This was also for his assistance in setting up the now successful “Sellers International Youth Band” following a successful lottery grant to provide an additional set of instruments for the Sellers Band organisation.

Married with 2 children & 3 grandchildren, David works as a Management Accountant for a Drainage manufacturing Company from 9 to 5 and for Sellers International Band for the rest of the time with the invaluable support of his wife Irene who can be seen at concerts selling CD's and is glad to help in any way necessary.
